Tibbits Young Audiences invites students in fourth through eighth grades to audition for the spring production of "The Enchantment of Beauty & the Beast." Auditions will be held on January 6 and 7 at 5 pm at Tibbits Opera House.

We all love the story of the prince who is cursed to be a ‘beast’ until he learns to love. In this enchanting version, a poor widowed woman plucks a forbidden rose from the Beast’s property. Though he sentences the woman to death, Beast allows her to first say goodbye to her family. At the widow’s farm, we meet her two distasteful daughters and greedy sons-in-law. The four of them hear her ‘insane’ story and don’t believe her. But her third daughter, Beauty, goes to the Beast and promises to stay if her mother’s life is spared. Of course, the Beast falls in love with Beauty, but can he change enough for Beauty to ever love him? Meanwhile, the two sons-in-law slink into the eerie castle hoping to find a treasure.

Auditions will take place on stage at Tibbits Opera House. Each student is required to attend only once and should come prepared with a current, non-returnable photo, a completed audition form (available at Tibbits.org), and be accompanied by one parent or guardian. During the audition, students will be asked to introduce themselves from the stage, read parts from the script, sing a familiar children’s song, and do some simple dance moves.

“The Enchantment of Beauty & the Beast” will be directed by Julia Littley with musical direction by Jayne Lillis and produced by Tirsha Odisher. This production is generously sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Coldwater. Students involved will learn characterization, blocking, costuming, makeup, and all aspects of stage production.

Tibbits Young Audiences offers programs both for and by area youth to cultivate their interest in the arts. Two shows yearly, a non-musical in the fall and a musical in the spring, provide students with an enjoyable introduction to the world of theatre. Through participation in these shows, they gain valuable insight into teamwork, discipline, theatre skills, self-confidence, and an appreciation for the arts.
